Donate to the Red Cross and help those affected by Storm Kristin

The Portuguese Red Cross is currently on the ground providing immediate assistance to populations affected by Storm Kristin, which has already resulted in fatalities, the displacement of several families, prolonged power outages, and the disruption of access routes, significantly hindering emergency response efforts in various regions of the country.

Descripción

In order to ensure a rapid, coordinated, and effective response, the Portuguese Red Cross has activated a national emergency response mechanism, mobilising its central structures and local branches, with particular focus on the areas where a state of calamity has been declared.

The ongoing operation includes medical and logistical support, with dozens of ambulances deployed in coordination with INEM, as well as the provision of power generators to Residential Care Facilities for older persons and to fire brigades.

In parallel, an in-depth assessment of the needs of the impacted communities is underway, with a particular focus on livelihoods and basic survival needs. This assessment aims to ensure that the response is adapted to the realities on the ground and that support reaches those most in need.

The Portuguese Red Cross is acting in close coordination with Civil Protection, INEM, and our local structures, ensuring complementarity of resources and an integrated response.
