We face an unprecedented emergency
Spain is experiencing one of the largest wildfire emergencies in recent years. Multiple large wildfires are burning simultaneously across the country, particularly in the Sierra Oeste of Madrid, Ávila and Castellón, requiring a major emergency response to protect communities and support those affected.
Our response focuses on providing safe accommodation for evacuated people by setting up temporary shelters and delivering food, water, essential supplies, health care, social support and psychosocial assistance. We also help coordinate shelter operations, strengthen emergency logistics and provide frontline teams with the resources they need to respond effectively.
In addition to providing accommodation, beds, blankets and other essential items, Red Cross teams deliver basic health care, psychosocial support and up-to-date information on the evolving situation, with special attention to older people, children, people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. Across the areas affected by the wildfires, the organization has established 78 temporary shelters to accommodate evacuated people, strengthening protection and support throughout the emergency.
