Support vulnerable families in accessing basic and healthy food, while reducing food waste through the recovery and distribution of surplus food.
In Spain, more than 9 million people live at risk of poverty, facing difficulties in accessing basic food and essential goods. At the same time, millions of tonnes of food are wasted every year, which could be used to help alleviate this situation. Fundación Altius, with 25 years of experience in the fight against social exclusion through comprehensive support and job placement training, has developed a concrete response to this need through its food assistance area: the 1 Kilo of Help Market.
This program offers vulnerable families, referred by Social Services after an assessment of their socioeconomic situation, the opportunity to collect a weekly grocery shop tailored to the size of their household. The shopping includes fresh and non-perishable products, presented in a self-service format to promote dignity and autonomy.
To make this assistance possible, Fundación Altius coordinates regular donations from companies and organizations, as well as managing a logistics network that collects surplus food daily from supermarkets and hospitality establishments. In this way, the program not only supports families most in need, but also helps reduce food waste by saving tonnes of food that would otherwise be lost.

The project supports vulnerable families, especially people experiencing long-term unemployment, single mothers, immigrants without work permits, people in precarious employment, and households without support networks.
